The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
